Permittee Status is the first step toward full membership with NABET 700-M Unifor. Permittees may be hired on signatory productions after all available Members have been considered, helping support film, television, and digital media productions across Ontario.

Applications are accepted year-round from Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and foreign nationals with a valid work permit.

Work in film and television is project-based, and many careers begin one opportunity at a time.
As a Permittee, you may be considered for work on signatory productions after all available Members have been considered.
While opportunities can vary, many people build strong and rewarding careers by gaining experience, showing consistency, and developing relationships on set. Starting as a Permittee is often the first step in building a long-term path in the industry.

We are a union that represents Members and Permittees working on signatory productions, advocating for fair wages, safe working conditions, and industry standards.
While the union can help connect Members and Permittees to signatory work opportunities, Production companies are your employers.

You need at least 40 DAYS OF WORK EXPERIENCE in film, television, or digital media in the department you're applying to. We define "relevant" work experience as consistent skill development in your chosen department.
This involves:
- Non-union/Commercial/Online Audiovisual Productions.
- Student films/Volunteer work.
- On-stage productions.
- Print & Advertising.
- International experience is also taken into account.
