Apply for Permittee Status
Your first step towards Membership
To obtain a full membership status with NABET 700-M Unifor, you must first become a Permittee. Permittees are eligible to work on NABET 700-M Unifor signatory productions after all available Members have been considered for work opportunities.
Applications are accepted year-round from Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and foreign nationals with a valid work permit.
Step 1: Choose Your Department
Check whether your department has additional requirements before preparing your application package. No additional requirements apply to Grip, Labour, and Special Effects.

Step 2: Gather All Mandatory Documents

NABETiquette Certificate
The course has a cost of $100.

Supervisor Health & Safety Certificate
Required certification from the Ministry of Labour.

Yes. Everyone must take it as part of the application process.

Your application must be reviewed by the Department and/or Vice-President of the department to which you are applying.
You will be notified via email once your application has been approved.

It’s difficult to predict how much work you’ll get as a Permittee. In general, some departments are busier than others, but overall, it’s entirely dependent on a number of factors such as how many shows we have in production, what kind of calls we’re getting and how many Members are already working.
Keep in mind that you’re a freelancer and steady work is not guaranteed. It’s always good to have some back-up income.

Anyone who has taken NABETiquette before 2020 must request to be issued a digital version of your certificate.
If you took NABETiquette after July 7, 2017, please remember that your certificate expires after three years, and you may have to redo the course.

No. You will not have to re-do the course so long as you initially applied within the three years.

NABETiquette certificates are valid for 3 years. If your certificate has expired you are required to attend another NABETiquette session to obtain a new certificate.
The NABETiquette fee is only applicable for your first session.
