The purpose of this course is to teach the basics of working with wigs and preparing for a wig to be built and/or to be fronted with lace. This hands-on training will provide participants with skills and confidence when being asked to do a head wrap, blocking of wigs, and prepping cast members’ hair.

Part 1: Wig Prep
-Preparing a person’s hair for wig application considering different lengths, textures and obstacles
-Creating preps for different scenarios and how to approach each application and what will be more conducive to how a wig will be worn (stunts, doubling, periods and styles) 

Part 2 - Blocking Wigs Properly
-How to properly block and care for a lace wig using the traditional methods
-How to treat various types of wigs, human, animal or synthetic 

Part 3 - Template Measurement
-How to be prepared and to perform a template measurement for a wig to be built or fronted
-This may also include templates for beards and other facial hair 

Please bring with you:

  • Wig stand and block (if you have your own)

  • Water spritzer

  • Denman brush

  • Small Innis brush

  • Tail combs 1 plastic/ 1 metal

  • Wigs from your own collection that you would like to ask the instructor about, e.g., troubleshooting tips, specific styling, etc. This is a fantastic opportunity to get specific, targeted techniques and advice!
