Registration is now open for NABET 700-M UNIFOR’s first Wiring 101 training course, covering best practices for placing wireless lavalier microphones on actors. This training will provide an introduction to microphone placement, costume and actor considerations, common hardware and expendables, and kit maintenance. After an introduction to course material, the instructor will work with ACTRA actors in multiple costume looks to showcase real applications of the techniques introduced in class. Etiquette and how to work with actors will be a consistent topic in each look. Participants will then work in pairs with fellow attendees to practice wiring, with instructors on hand to address questions and provide feedback. An in-depth course manual will also be provided.

Instructor

Constance Hilton is a Toronto based Boom Operator and independent Filmmaker with over a decade of industry experience. Her sound credits include the Emmy winning comedy series Schitt's Creek (CBC) and Canadian Screen Award winning series Pretty Hard Cases (CBC) and Orphan Black (Space, BBC America). Constance’s short films have screened domestically and internationally, garnering multiple festival awards and nominations. A lifetime lover of visual storytelling, Constance graduated from Sheridan College's Media Arts program in 2007 before beginning her career in film. She has served as a member of the Executive Board of NABET 700-M UNIFOR, the Ontario union of film, television and new media technicians, as VP Sound since 2018.
